The climate of Ireland is mild and the majority of winter precipitation comes in the form of rain. Snow is really rare, and apart from a few cold snaps, it melts quickly.
However in the mountains, it snows more frequently, and the snow lasts longer. When there is snow, people from lower-lying towns and villages pack their families into cars and hit the mountains, turning them into the snowy playgrounds.
The pictures in this gallery were taken during the first snowfall of the season, on November 20th, 2016.
